EARTH AND SPACE SYSTEMS - WEATHER
INTRODUCTION
Hurricane Mitch, the Ice Storm of 1998, the wildfires in Indonesia
are only three samples of the power of “weather”. What
is El Nino and how can it so dramatically change the weather patterns
around the world? Students will learn that daily weather patterns
are linked to conditions around the world and that to a certain
degree, can be predicted. Through the use of instruments used to
detect temperature, wind speed, cloud formation, precipitation and
atmospheric pressure, students will gain a feel for the study of
meteorology.
STUDENT DEMONSTRATION PROJECT
Students will learn how to use instruments that have been set up
at the Scenic Caves’ weather station. They will gain an understanding
for the moderating effects of the Great Lakes on their own weather
system(s).
